Title: See our post seminar report on Bristol's Broadmead expansion project

A BIRDS EYE VIEW OF BRISTOL’S BROADMEAD EXPANSION PROJECT!

An eagerly awaited update on the progress of the £500 million Broadmead Expansion project delivered good news to a meeting of Women in Property, the association representing all the property and construction professions.

The seminar was organised by Robyn Gilmour, Marketing Manager at property and construction consultants, Bucknall Austin.

From the top floor offices of the Bristol Alliance in Castlemead, 70 women and men heard from Philip Vaughan of Land Securities and Ray Brown of Hammerson, the two joint venture partner companies of the Bristol Alliance.
The beauty of the venue was its panoramic bird’s eye view of the entire site and the infrastructure changes around the area. The view highlighted the enormity of the task that the Bristol Alliance has taken on. The presentations detailed the painstaking process of getting a project like this off the ground and running smoothly.

For the Women in Property members and their guests, who are all involved in the property and construction industry, it was fascinating to hear about the vision, patience and high level of planning required to conceive of, design and build a project that will change the face of Bristol and impact on all of our lives in such a positive way. It is predicted that Bristol will move from 23rd to 7th in the UK rankings for cities. Benefits such as employment levels during and after construction, regeneration of the immediate and surrounding areas and improved infrastructure are factors that immediately come to mind, but the project will act as a catalyst for future developments in Bristol as well.

So, shops, shops and more shops! But an entirely unique and greatly enhanced retail experience awaits the public of Bristol! Philip Vaughan said “This is the introduction of fashion to Bristol….”. Gone will be the days of having to travel to other cities to shop. Instead, Bristol will be a retail destination for surrounding regions. There are more than 100 shops in addition to the anchor stores, which include Harvey Nichols in the Quakers Friars area and a four storey 170,000sq ft House of Fraser department store, and 15 flagship stores, a cinema, cafes, restaurants, 3 new streets, a new civic square and covered parking.

An important element of the scheme is the introduction of residential and leisure space. The city centre will become a vibrant and desirable evening venue and the days of a desolate night time city will be over.

The seminar generated so much interest that a second event has been arranged for Friday 7th July 2006. If you are interested in attending, please email Robyn Gilmour at robyn.gilmour@bucknall.com, call Bucknall Austin on 0117 914 2477 or see www.bucknall.com for details.
