Annual Summer Walk
The annual summer walk was led by Sue Jackson of The Original London Walks Company. This year’s walk “London’s Secret Village” left Farringdon under bright, if a little cloudy skies. Sue led 32 members and guests through the Clerks well area. Clerken being the plural of clerks and the well belonging to them, we were in Clerkenwell. Our walk took us along the route of the river Fleet, to the Karl Marx Museum, Penny Post building, and Sue gave us the history of the area going back to medieval times and up to today with the Piers Gough building designed for Janet Street Porter. We got drenched twice but that did not stop our enjoyment or education. Having found the very friendly Hand and Shears pub following last year’s carol service, we went back there again to get dry and for sustenance and networking. This seems to have become a very popular annual event. Thanks to Vanessa for organising it.
