Title: WiP goes doon the watter!

The Central Branch of Women in Property set sail ‘doon the water’ last week on a site visit to look at some of the regeneration projects currently taking place along the River Clyde.

This was the latest in a series of joint events held with CIMCIGS (Chartered Institute of Marketing Construction Industry Group Scotland), allowing us to broaden our networking opportunities (and bring some men along!)

The evening commenced with a buffet and presentation in the spectacular A Listed Clydeport Building in Robertson Street. A fascinating building that is testament to the success of the Scottish shipbuilding industry in its day.

Samantha Stewart, Marketing Manager at Glasgow Harbour Ltd, highlighted some of the development projects that are currently underway on the 130 acre site. Due to be completed in 10 years time, the project will provide 2,500 residential properties, around 500,000ft2 of retail and leisure premises and a commercial district comprising 2millionft2. Also included will be Glasgow City Council’s new Riverside Museum, designed by internationally renowned architect Zaha Hadid. Samantha was also keen to point out the importance given to the creation of public realm space, which will include an 11 acre linear park.

It looked like the highlight of the trip was going to be a wash out, as, in the spirit of a true Scottish summer, it had been pouring with rain all day. However, it stayed dry and everyone sat ‘on deck’ of the Pride of the Clyde, as we sailed 5 miles along the Clyde waterfront. Maria Franke of Drivers Jonas – planning consultants to Glasgow Harbour Ltd., did an excellent job providing commentary on current and future developments along the way. It was a thoroughly enjoyable trip which gave everyone a different perspective on the project and an idea of the scale of what is one of the largest waterfront regeneration projects in the UK.
