Title: Event write-up - The Wellcome Collection

On Thursday 18 October, a small group of Women in Property members gathered at the Wellcome Collection in Euston, London for a tour of the recently opened exhibition, gallery and conference space.

Edward Williams from Hopkins Architects and Catherine Cooper from the Wellcome Trust led the tour and spoke about the four year project to convert the Wellcome Trust’s old office building into an exciting, modern and flexible public space. Issues they had to address during the project included opening up the previously partitioned building, installing state of the art technology for the conference areas and designing a fitting exhibition to house just some of Henry Wellcome’s collection of over a million medical artefacts.

The visit was highly informative and gave us an insight into the huge challenges faced by the project team. However, with so much to see within the exhibition many of the group have vowed to return to the Wellcome Collection at a later date. The tour ended conveniently in the venue’s café where the group enjoyed drinks and food.
