Title: South West Branch New Members and Networking Lunch

The MJ Long new members and networking lunch on 1 March was a sell out event.

Over 60 packed into Osborne Clarke's offices to hear MJ's comments on the role of design in urban developments.

MJ, a newly appointed CABE Commissioner, Vice Chair of the South West Design Review Panel and leading architect, gave her insight into the issues which need to be addressed on urban developments; how essential it is to a community's development to be alive to the past history of the locality but not restricted by it; to welcome modern initiatives where these build upon the energy of the community and help to shape its future development.

With examples from US coastal regions, MJ graphically illustrated the detrimental effect of haphazard or one-development-fits-all approaches to regeneration and the lessons the South West should take on board in pursuing its development of the region.
