South West Branch
Welcome to the South West Branch page. If you are thinking of joining us, here is a taster of what we have to offer.
Events – Last year we celebrated 20 years of Women in Property with a series of special events including a free members lunch at Goldbrick House, a summer drinks party held at the Royal West of England Academy, and a half day conference focusing on sustainability in the South West. The culmination of the year was celebrated at the South West Dinner Dance in the impressive surroundings of the City Museum on 10th April. A wide range of guests from across the property ad construction industries in the South West enjoyed a champagne reception, three course meal and dancing into the evening. The event proved to be a fitting end to a highly successful 20th Anniversary year.
As ever we have a variety of events planned over the coming months and hope that there will be something for everyone. Our bi-monthly networking lunches continue to be extremely popular together with our quarterly breakfast briefings, social events and hot topic seminars. This year ‘The Changing Face…’ will be the theme of a series of seminars and site visits in looking at the enormous change that continues to transform Bristol and the South West.
Our annual Summer Drinks Party will take place at the Royal West of England Academy on 25th June when we will also annouce the South West Regional Winner of the Student Award Scheme.
Keep any eye on our events page for further details. The majority of our events are also open to non members so feel free to bring along friends or colleagues who you think may be interested.
Satellites - The branches two satellites continue to develop now accounting for a third of the total branch membership. We are a geographically large branch and whilst we try to hold events in a variety of places we are aware that some are more represented than others.
This year we will be continuing with our initiatives in Bath whilst also providing events for those members based in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. Our first highly successful event in Cheltenham took place on Monday 22nd April with a networking lunch at the highly acclaimed Spice restaurant. If you have any ideas or are interested in holding an event in your area please contact the committee.
Roadshow - The roadshow initiative was hugely successful last year and we will be continuing with this during 2008/09. As ever we are looking for willing volunteers from all sectors and professions to give up an hour or so of their time to assist with manning the stand at school and college open days. Keep an eye on the website for forthcoming dates and if you are interested in becoming involved with this important initiative then please do not hesitate to contact Margot Forsythe.
Mentoring - Mentoring is an important function of the association and we are always looking for people who would like to take part in the scheme either as a mentor or mentee. You can be at any stage of your career to take part and the mentoring scheme is carried out in conjunction with JIVE a government sponsored organisation. Full training and support is provided and many members across the country have found it to be beneficial.
We in the South West Branch hope to offer our members networking opportunities, educational and interesting talks, career support and above all fun!
The association is here for you and if you have any ideas to improve what we do both locally and nationally we would love to hear from you. Emma Glynn
