South East Branch
I am delighted to announce that the winner of the South East Branch Student Award for 2008 is Christine Saeverud, who is studying BSc (Hons) Building Engineering at University of Westminster. Our finalists were of truly international calibre and our panel of judges was impressed by the quality of the women entering the profession, as exemplified by the candidates. Christine’s prize includes an engraved glass trophy, a cheque for £500, membership of Women in Property, Mentoring training and a work placement. Christine will compete against the other regional award winners as a National finalist and the winner will be announced at our “Best of the Best” black tie dinner at Claridge’s on 23rd September 2008 - tickets are available now and the event is likely to sell out very quickly. Please support this prestigious event with your presence and encourage your colleagues and contacts to attend.
I am also pleased to welcome Annette Sanders, Clare Pringle and Fiona Dalgliesh of LandAid, Peter Taylor Associates and Colliers CRE respectively, onto our Branch Committee. If you would like to become more actively involved please ask me about how you can do so. The commitment is as much as you can manage – the rewards are huge, both in personal development and fulfilment.
Roadshow 2008
The date of our Schools Roadshow has been confirmed as 22 October 2008 and new Committee member Annette Sanders and a handpicked team of volunteers has already commenced planning this key event. Developing our theme from 2007 in association with the O2 and Fabric Nightclub, Year 11 students from Lilian Bayliss School will participate in a team building challenge, working together on a construction project. We make a real difference to these children and open up a world of property careers to them. You can help by volunteering to assist on the day and/or by offering sponsorship, branded contents for goody bags and more.
Satellite Branches
Following the successful launch of the Guildford Satellite under the stewardship of Kimberley Eyssell, plans are in hand to launch new satellites in Thames Valley and Wessex (South Coast) If you live or work in these areas watch out for the special flyers that will be appearing shortly. The launch of the satellites will enable us to bring our events programme closer to our members outside London.
Leadership
Our programme of seminars for women who wish to take their careers to the next level continues; following events on “Shattering the Leadership Mystique” and “Taking Business Development from Good To Great” our next takes the theme of “Success in Meetings” and we are planning to offer sessions on presentation skills and media training. We all need to possess leadership skills and the ability to demonstrate them with confidence and we hope our “Leadership in the Third Millennium” series of seminars has your support.
Mentoring
Our Mentoring programme is a free member benefit offered in association with the UK Resource Centre for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology. The next training session will take place at Cushman & Wakefield at 1400 on 23rd September 2008 and I encourage members who have not yet been trained to participate - and to offer themselves as mentors. Whatever the stage of your career, I can assure you that your knowledge and experience can make a real difference to another member.
Events
Our superb rolling programme of events continues with something for everyone, both at branch and national level, involving a combination of speakers, seminars, site visits and socials over breakfast, at lunchtime and in the evening - with unrivalled opportunities for networking. I look forward to meeting you all during the course of my year as Chairman.
